No. of bitstreams: 1 4037.pdf: 8266474 bytes, checksum: 62928c361fd849339a960e3528ba8757 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-31 === Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos === The Sepé Tiaraju, the first one settlement in the mode of Sustainable Development Project PDS of São Paulo state, founded in 2004 in the sugarcane region of Ribeirão Preto/SP, has as a proposal being an alternative to the conventional forms of land occupation and management of natural resources adopted in the region. Then a group of farmers along with Embrapa Environment, INCRA/SP and other partners has been trying to consolidate a participative strategy of development and generation of agro-ecological knowledge in the settlement using Agroforestry SAFs. Based on this ongoing process in the Sepe Tiaraju settlement, this study uses methodologies such as Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Action Research and Participant Observation to analyze the strategies of development adopted, and the contribution of the SAFs for the construction of agro-ecological knowledge and the consolidation of sustainable production systems. In summary we can say by this study that the Agroecology and the use of participative methodologies are essential to conduct local development strategies, thereby promoting the construction, validation and appropriation of knowledge by farmers. It also became clear the contribution of the agroforestry to conciliate the environmental conservation with the diversified food production for the families selfconsumption and even surplus for commercialization and income generation. === O Sepé Tiaraju, primeiro assentamento da modalidade de Projeto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável PDS no Estado de São Paulo, criado em 2004 na região canavieira de Ribeirão Preto, tem como proposta ser uma alternativa às formas convencionais de ocupação da terra e gestão dos recursos naturais adotadas na região. Por isso, um grupo de agricultores, juntamente com a Embrapa Meio Ambiente, INCRA/SP e outros parceiros, vem construindo uma estratégia participativa de desenvolvimento e geração do conhecimento agroecológico no assentamento a partir de Sistemas Agroflorestais - SAFs. Tendo como base esse processo em curso no assentamento Sepé Tiaraju, este trabalho utiliza de metodologias como o Diagnóstico Rural Participativo, a Pesquisa Ação Participativa e a Observação Participante, para analisar as estratégias de desenvolvimento adotadas, e a contribuição dos SAFs para a construção do conhecimento agroecológico e a consolidação de sistemas sustentáveis de produção. Em síntese, é possível afirmar, com este trabalho, que a Agroecologia e a utilização de metodologias participativas são fundamentais para a condução de estratégias de desenvolvimento local, fomentando assim a construção, validação e apropriação do conhecimento pelos agricultores. Também ficou clara a contribuição dos SAFs para conciliar a conservação ambiental com a produção diversificada de alimentos para o consumo próprio das famílias e ainda excedentes para comercialização e geração de renda.
