No presente estudo foi realizado o levantamento das espécies de Machaerium ocorrentes no estado de São Paulo, baseado na análise de exticatas provenientes dos principais herbários e de coletas de campo. AS espécies foram descritas e ilustradas, os caracteres morfológicos diagnósticos foram estabelecidos, as informações sobre distribuição foram atualizadas e foi elaborada uma chave de identificação específica. As 16 espécies confirmadas para o Estado de São Paulo são: M. aculeatum Raddi, M. acutifolium Vog., M amplum Benth., M brasiliense Vog., M cantarellianum Hoehne, M. declinatum (Vell) Stellfeld, M. lanceolatum (Vell.) J.F Macbr., M. nictitans (Vell) Benth., M. oblongifolium Vog., M. paraguariense Hassi., M stipitatum Vog., M. scleroxylon Tul., M. triste vog., M.uncinatum Benth., M. vestitum Vog. e M. vilosum Vog. Quanto à distribuição pelo estado, as espécies foram encontradas em mata mesófila semidecídua, mata mesófila de altitude, mata ciliar, mata de restinga, cerrado, cerradão e campo. Algumas espécies ocorreram exclusivamente ns regiões oeste (M. amplum) a leste do estado (M. cantarellianum, M.declinatum, Muncinatum, M.triste e M. oblongifolium). ...Observação: O resumo, na íntegra, poderá ser visualizado no texto completo da tese digital === Abstract: Machaerium Pers. Is a neotropical genus of 120-130 species including plants of arboreal habit and lianas. In this paper the species of Machaerium from the state of São Paulo were studied, based on an analysis of specimes from main herbaria and field collections. The species were described and illustrated, the diagnostic morphologic characteristics were established, the informations about distribution were actualized and was elaborated a specific identification key. The species recorded in the state of São Paulo were: M. aculeatum Raddi, M. acutifolium Vog., M amplum Benth., M brasiliense Vog., M cantarellianum Hoehne, M. declinatum (Vell) Stellfeld, M. lanceolatum (Vell.) J.F Macbr., M. nictitans (Vell) Benth., M. oblongifolium Vog., M. paraguariense Hassi., M stipitatum Vog., M. scleroxylon Tul., M. triste vog., M.uncinatum Benth., M. vestitum Vog. e M. vilosum Vog. Referring to the distribuition of the species throughout the state os São Paulo they were found in semideciduous forest, semideciduous mountain forest, gallery forest, 'cerrado' field, 'cerradão' and 'restinga'.
