Previous issue date: 2012-05-25 === FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA E AO DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTIFICO E TECNOLÓGICO DO MARANHÃO === In this study we investigated the potential of rice husk in nature (CAN) and treated with nitric acid (CAT) as adsorbents for the removal of textile dyes Remazol brilliant violet and Remazol Turquoise. The adsorbents were characterized by elemental analysis, vibrational spectroscopy in the infrared, NMR, 13 C solid state, TGA, X-ray diffraction and zero point of charge (pHpcz). Tests for adsorption of the dyes were examined by a batch system by changing the initial experimental factors as pH, concentration of the dyes, the contact time and temperature. Adsorption kinetic models were used to analyze interactions colorants/adsorbents and reaction equilibrium time. The adsorption kinetic data were fitted to the second order model (R2> 0.999). The intraparticle diffusion model showed three linear segments, indicating the three stages of the adsorptive process. The isotherm models of Langmuir and Freundlich were used in the evaluation of experimental results. For both adsorbents (CAN and CAT), the model proposed by Freundlich resulted in the best fit of experimental data for the violet dye, while the Langmuir equation showed the best fit for the Turquoise dye. The thermodynamic parameters obtained by evaluating the isotherms at temperatures 10, 25, 40 and 55 ° C, confirmed the spontaneity of the adsorption processes, which are endothermics, with a high degree of disorder. The systems tested showed low values of desorption of the dyes in alkaline pH's (8 and 11), indicating high affinity between matrices and dye and that the electrostatic interaction was not the predominant mechanism in the adsorption. Finally, this materials seems to be an excellent alternative, as it is an abundant biomass available at low cost. |
