Its theoretical, methodological reference point is the Depth Hermeneutics proposed by John Thompson (1995), and therefore, has been developed according to the three stages which consist the referred method: social historical analysis; speech analysis; interpretation/reinterpretation. As a way of contextualising the first stage, has been carried out bibliographical research about the history of Republic in Brazil and in the state of Santa Catarina, about the history of the Press in state and national scope as well, and about journalism theoretical assumptions and the concept of ideology. For second and third stages, have been analysed the leading articles (editorials) of four from the 20 republican journals edited in that period. As a result of that, have been identified different operational manners and ideology strategies in operation on speech constructions of that journals. === Esta pesquisa investiga os modos de operação da ideologia na imprensa republicana catarinense entre 1885 e 1889. Tem como referencial teórico-metodológico a Hermenêutica de Profundidade proposta por John Thompson (1995) e, portanto, foi desenvolvida obedecendo as três fases que compõem o referido método: análise sócio-histórica; análise discursiva; interpretação/re-interpretação. Como forma de contextualizar a primeira fase, foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica sobre a história da república no Brasil e em Santa Catarina, sobre a história da imprensa também em âmbito nacional e estadual, sobre os pressupostos teóricos do jornalismo e o conceito de ideologia. Para as segunda e terceira fases, foram analisados os artigos de fundo (editoriais) de seis dos 20 jornais republicanos editados naquele período. Como resultado, foram identificados diferentes modos de operação e estratégias de ideologia em operação nas construções discursivas daqueles jornais.
