Summary:In the 1990s, the New England Medical Center negotiated with the City of Boston to build a parking garage on Parcel C in Chinatown, land which had previously been promised to Chinatown residents for a community center. The Chinese Progressive Association helped form the Coalition to Protect Parcel C, which was instrumental in halting the New England Medical Center's plan. In 1994, the Chinese Progressive Association was formally granted land to build a community center. In this image, residents of Chinatown are seated at tables. There are posters on the wall in both English and Chinese, with this information: "12/18/[19]97 Community Meeting Purpose, Discuss Dev'm of Parcel C, Community Activation of Development." "1996 Car Accidents in Chinatown reported to 911/BPD [Boston Police Dept.]. 96 Injuries from cars. 18 Car Accidents with Injuries 9:00 pm-5:00 am. 36 Accidents with Injuries Sat and Sun."
