Description
Summary:The motivation for this research was the need for a short picture interest inventory for vocational guidance, which pupils would find less tiring, be less time consuming and eliminate any verbal problems. The purpose of this research is to develop a picture interest inventory for white pupils and students to aid them in subject choices (std. 5), field of study (std. 7) and vocational guidance (std. 10). A study of literature on the definition of interest, aspects of interest and how they related to interest was undertaken. Research on interest measurements was completed and the questionnaire method and -technique received detailed attention. The interpretation and functions of interest inventories were examined and several interest inventories were discussed. Afterwards a representative sample was tested on the picture interest inventory. Simultaneously the CODUS was completed for validation purposes. Six weeks later the picture interest inventory was retested for reliability. An acceptable set of norms were attained for white Afrikaans speaking pupils from the Rustenburg region for the use of this picture interest inventory. Reliability and validity of the picture interest inventory were obtained. Intercorrelations and sex differences in the picture interest inventory were calculated. Most results were satisfactory. === Thesis (MEd)--PU vir CHO, 1992
