spelling ndltd-OhioLink-oai-etd.ohiolink.edu-akron13106687962021-08-03T05:26:32Z Optical Polarimetric Characterization of Polymer Nanostructures on Silicon Substrate Pingili, Divya Sruthi The main purpose of this study is to explore the interaction between gold and silver nano- particles dispersed at different concentrations of PVA (poly-vinyl alcohol) with polarized light, using polarimetric principles and metrics. The study is articulated in two parts' the application of optical polarimetric imaging principles operating under co-polarization and cross-polarization geometries; b) the polarimetric light interactions with the matter based on the ‘Fourier Analysis using Rotating Retarder method' using Stokes parameters analysis. Intensity measurements under co-polarized and cross-polarized transceiver-receiver geometries were obtained from the first set of experiments which allowed us to estimate the Degree of Linear Polarization (DOLP), while the second part of the study allowed us to estimate the Degree of Circular Polarization (DOCP) for the same samples. As a part of the calibration procedures of the polarimetric system, backscattering light experiments were conducted on the white surface, black surface and a plain mirror.
