Archaeology anthropology hopewell towner mound public history portage county portage park district hopewell periphery excavation lake pippin mound 33-Po-1 Towner Mound is a Hopewell burial mound in Portage County, Ohio, which is a part of the Hopewell periphery. This thesis describes a project of creating a webpage to document this archaeological site for the Portage Park District in order to increase public awareness and understanding of the site.Towner Mound was excavated in 1932 by Dr. Emerson Greenman from the Ohio Historical and Archaeological Society, now the Ohio History Connection. However, information on what was discovered during this excavation is contradictory and confusing. The mound was re-excavated in 1972 by Kent State University under the direction of Dr. Orrin Shane. This thesis describes my interpretations about the Towner Mound site based on the available information from these excavations and other primary sources.Included in this thesis are both the methods and challenges I faced in creating this webpage but also the research that I gathered about the site. Research about the site is included because this is the first attempt to gather and analyze all of the remaining information on the site. I hope that by including this research it will enable researchers to include this site in further studies of periphery Hopewell sites. 2015-05-07 English text Kent State University Honors College / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ksuhonors1430692663 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ksuhonors1430692663 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
