Electromagnetism Physics FMR resonance Permalloy perpendicular applied field field angular dependence The linear relationship between resonant frequency as a function of applied magneticfield was investigated using a FMR experimental technique for the field perpendicular toa Permalloy thin film. Measurements were taken near a critical point (Happlied=4πM),which occurs at low frequencies in the frequency versus field curve. In order to do this, aspecial apparatus had to be designed and constructed so that the film could be preciselyoriented. The design and operation of this apparatus can provide angular adjustments ontwo axes to within 0.01°. It was also necessary to design and make a waveguide thatoperated between 8.0 GHz and 1.6 GHz. It was found that the high field resonance peakfollowed a linear dispersion while the low field resonant peak followed a nonlineardispersion that appeared to result from local areas of the sample not beingperpendicularly aligned. 2009-08-17 English text Miami University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1250281122 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1250281122 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
