A host of algorithms for truss optimization can be found in the literature, and these are largely search algorithms driven by stochastic processes. This research investigates the question of whether certain truss characteristics can be used to formulate optimization criteria or improve existing algorithms by reducing the search space to auspicious regimes. In particular, this research attempts to find a relationship between a quantity termed the weighted angle eccentricity and the maximum observed member force in a planar truss with specified applied forces and reaction constraints. Angle eccentricity refers to the angle that a force vector makes with the angle bisector of the angle formed between two adjacent members. Multiplying all of these eccentricities with their respective force magnitudes and summing the resulting products gives the total weighted angle eccentricity.
