This is a shift from an ontological perspective of priestly identity, which identifies the priest by ontological change that happens in the action of ordination. This new character placed on the priest changes him into an icon of Christ. Icons, as suggested in the tradition of iconography, make Christ present and bring us into deeper union with Him by this presence. The priest, then, not only represents Christ but makes Him present through his priestly identity.This conclusion is made sense by the reality and function of prophetic drama in the Old Testament. Like through their spoken oracles, prophets also communicate God’s message through their dramatic actions. These actions, as well as the accompanying oracles and the events that are foretold by them, are interpreted as powerful expressions of God’s eternal will.
