A carbon monoxide CO molecule adsorbed on Ag(111) surface, an Ag(111) step and a BETS-GaCl<sub>4</sub> cluster and layer on Ag(111) are used as zero, one and two dimensional defects, respectively. The dI/dV spectra are acquired as a function of distance from the defects in atomic scale and analyze the behaviors of the surface state intensities and on-set energies. In all cases, the surface state intensity decreases near the defects. However the surface state on-set energy shows different behaviors. In this thesis, a simple model based on the interference of plane waves due to reflection is proposed and simulated to explain the oscillations in dI/dV spectra appeared above the surface state onset energy. The results show that unlike Ag(111) step and BETS-GaCl<sub>4</sub> layer, the reflection of electrons at the CO molecule and the two dimensional molecular cluster are very weak.
