Randolph Architecture non periodic systems non periodic architectural systems acentric design The old ways of designing are dead; vestiges of an era controlled by the “architectural genius,” searching for purity. From the Greeks to Mies van der Rohe, the search for perfection and purity has been an acute and prolonged undertaking throughout history taking various forms, shapes, and movements. The Acentric Design Process as the alternative is neither a static system of computation nor a celebration of complexity. Acentric Design is conceptual complexity and conceptual contextuality. Rather than a predestined goal of “Pragmatism”, “Blobism”, or any other “-ism”, this process is a prevailing global framework, layering dissimilar conceptual systems as nodes, merging, mediating, and synthesizing these nodes, creating hybridized entropic space. The conceptual framework of the edge and of the adjacency, with all of the agitation associated with the overlap, is more inclusive and flexible than the dogmatic, centrally controlled autocracy of the classical and its descendants. 2003-07-07 English text University of Cincinnati / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1053443291 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=ucin1053443291 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
