Thus, optics benefit from the processing power of electronics and electronics from the bandwidth and parallelism that can be achieved through optics. This research is part of a bigger project the CASPR: “Configurable Architecture for Smart Pixel Research”. CASPR is a generically programmable array of single bit RISC processors. Being programmable, allows one to tackle the expensive ASIC based solutions prevalent in smart pixel technologies.
