Organizational Behavior Psychology Flexible Work Schedules Caretaking Job Satisfaction Organizational Attraction Absenteeism Organizational Characteristics This study examined how work schedules of varying flexibility related to job satisfaction, self-anticipated absenteeism, and organizational attraction based on potential job applicants’ perceptions. Caretaker status was also studied as a moderator between work schedule type and organizational attraction. A between-subjects design was implemented consisting of a total of 225 participants recruited from Amazon’s MTurk. It was hypothesized that participants would report higher levels of organizational attraction, higher job satisfaction, and lower absenteeism with work schedules of increasing flexibility. It was also hypothesized that caretaker status would act as a moderator between organizational attraction and work schedule type such that caretakers will have higher organizational attraction with work schedules of increasing flexibility than non-caretakers. In general, the results did not confirm the hypotheses. Significant differences were found among two of the work schedules in that participants reported more self-anticipated absenteeism when given schedules of higher flexibility, which was contrary to the hypothesis. Because participants were only given organizational vignettes to read, the lack of significant results may be attributed to the study’s insufficient details that would have given respondents a better understanding of the schedule type. These findings contribute to the growing body of research on flexible working schedules and how schedule type affects applicant perceptions. 2018-04-04 English text Xavier University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=xavier1522346698770507 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=xavier1522346698770507 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
