A new approach for calculating swirl number is proposed in this study. A comparison among various approaches for swirl number calculations are also made. The swirl number is found to increase with the secondary air velocity and decreases with the primary air velocity, the diamter of secondary air nozzles and the diameter of imaginary circle. Based on the experimental data, a correlation for calculating the swirl number was obtained. It is found that the swirl number is a combination of three factors; the exit tube diameter divided by the total diameter of secondary air nozzles , volumetric flow rate of secondary air and scale-up factor.
