The sizes of scrap tires used in the study were 10-20mm and 50-100mm . The cross section of the combustion chamber is 0.7 by 1.4m and 2 m in height. The freeboard section is 1 m in diameter, 4 m in height. There are two levels of secondary air injection. each level has four equally-spaced air nozzles. The special arrange- ment is non-equal air plenums of the windbox and incline distri- butor causing the internally circulating within the fluidized bed. The typical operating conditions were as flollows: the feed rate of scrap tires was kept about 65 kg/ hr, static bed depth was approximately 0.35 m, superfical gas velocity was 0.84 m/s and the average bed temperature was about 800℃. The typical start-up procedure takes 4-5 hrs. The effect of the size of waste tire, secondaryu air flow rate and tertiary air flow rate on the combustion efficiency, sulfur retention and pollants emission were studied.
