and widely dispersed recently in Taiwan. Among these
buildings, metal curtain walls are used as out-wall most often.
Beneath the beautiful and bright outlook of these
building, there are problems of surface deteriorations and
sealant failures. The conjunction gaps of metal curtain
wall is to join between material and material. Therefore,
these conjunction gaps are necessary in realization of the
metal curtain walls. The most widely used sealant material
for this gaps in Taiwan is elastic sealant material. So, how
to make the elastic material suitable and durable in a metal
curtain wall project. In this thesis, we will first study the
fundamental elements of metal curtain wall, and to have basic
understand of the sealant material. Then we use field
interview and investigation to study the situations of
sealant deterioration after it used in the metal curtain
wall and to further understand the roles of the sealant
materials . We divide this thesis in to six chapters
Chapter 1: Introducing the motivation, the target, and the
procedure of the research and reviewing related
literature. Chapter 2: Introducing the types and styles of
metal curtain wall. Chapter 3: Introducing the origination,
the histroy, the domestic and foriegn rules regarding the
sealant materials, explaining the method to enforce the
durability of process from design, implementation and
maintenance viewpoints, and analyzing the reason of
material deterioration. Chapter 4: Introducing the
questionnaire, the field interviewing plan, the
practicing method, and the survey items. Chapter 5: Analyzing
and comparing the results of the survey. Explaining the
statistical results of sealant material deterioration.
Chapter 6: Conclusion and Suggestion. Explaining the
important of Sealant material to the curtain wall and
suggesting for the future research.
