Due to the complicated and transient develop- ment in modern metropolis , and also the ineffable influence generated by it. MeanWhile, reviewing the related discourses on the topic of“Metropolis”and the results of such studies, we develop an approach employing the idea from literary expe- rience to discuss“ Metropolis situation”. Through the keen consciousness of the urban writers, we may apprehend the deep pulse of urban development. Taipei,as the biggest city in Taiwan, experienced radical urbanization after the retrocession from Japanese occupyed. During the process of the urbanization , people who live in the city deeply confronted live in the change of the metropo- litan situation. Therefore, this thesis will take Taipei city as the setting of the case study from 1950s to 1970s , and the year of 1967 is regarded, when the administration system had changed , as the break point for periodization . Consequently , the physical development of urbanization is seen as the spatial-temporal background, and as the spirit of the epoch is incorporated with the discussion of the trans- forming metropolistan situation. As what mentioned above, then we discuss the transformation of situation in Taipei during two periods which are distinguished the difference in urbanity and the character of relative experience of literary. (1)Transformation of metropolitan situation in developing Taipei:1950-1967(2) Transformation of metropolitan situation in newly industrialized Taipei: 1967-1979. By the research from this approach, what we find out can be as concluded what follows: The metropolitan situation of Taipei had transformed from an ambivalence of phase of pas- toral atmosphere to a heterogeneous phase of splitting gen- eration.
