speciosa (Wendl.)K.Schum by means of steam distillation and
solvent extraction. It was treated with base to remove the
acidic compounds and a neutral product was obtained. The neut-
ral essential oil was separated and purified by the combination
of column chromatography and GC/TCD ,and was identified by dir-
ect comparison of GC retention times, GC,GC/MS , IR and NMR. 26
terpenoids including, α-Pinene, β-Pinene, Camphene, Myrcene,
Limonene, 1,8-Cineole, γ-Terpinene, p-Cymene, d-Camphor,
Linalool, Terpinen-4-ol, α-Caryophyllene,Borneolα-Terpineol,
γ-Cadinene , δ-Cadinene, cis-Sabinol, 1,5-p-Menthadien-7-ol,
Dihydrocaryophyllene-5-one, Guaiol, Elemol, Thymol, α-Cadinol,
β-Eudesmol, Phytol and an antiulcer component-Dihydro-5,6-
dehydrokawain were identified.
