pharmaceutical, and petroleum industrities.A semiflow
equilibrium apparatus system was used to measure the
solubilities of methylbenzoic acid isomers in supercritical
carbon dioxide over the temperature range from 313.2 to
333.2 K and a pressure range form 109.8 to 245.9 bar.The
solubilities within a family was found to be a function of
the melting point of the isomers,the lower the melting point
,the higher the solubilities.The results suggest that
supercritical solvents can be used to separate 2- and 3-
,or 3- and 4- methylbenzoic acid isomers. The measured mole
fractions of methylbenzoic acid are correlated using the
model proposed by Chrastil,and as predicted by this model,
a linear relationship between the logarithm of the solubility
and the logarithm of the density of carbon dioxide was
obtained.
