Summary: | 碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 電子研究所 === 82 === Compact, lightweight, and flexible substrate-mode holograms are
presented to replace conventional prisms for polarization
beamsplitting. These holographic optical elements are applied
to various optical communication networks for system
improvement. The approaches to implement Benes space-division
networks with our substrate-mode holograms will be illustrated.
The unique features of these holographic elements eliminate the
need of interconnection lines between switching units. The
characteristics of these optical interconnection networks are
also discussed. Besides, the substrate-mode holograms are used
to build N-by-N passive star couplers. Both polarization-
dependent and polarization-independent star couplers are
presented. The compact polarization-independent 1-by-2 and
2-by-2 optical switches using holograms are also proposed and
their application to SONET self-healing rings is demonstrated
and discussed.
