Literatures concerning the stress concentration problems most put emphasis on the study of two dimensional plate. In certain cases, the thickness of plate will affect the stress concentration factor, for example, due to the application of out-of-plane bending and hence three dimensional stress concentration problems could be considered. It is straightforward and convenient to analyze the three dimensional stress concentration problems using computational techniques. The boundary element analysis is a powerful numerical approach since only the geometry and physical variables on the surface of boundary is needed to deal with. For another numerical method, the finite element method should complicately involve solid element modeling. In order to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed boundary element method, some benchmark problems with eight- noded isoparametric quadrilateral boundary elements are presented. Besides, the computations of singular integral in boundary element is performed accurately through the use of eight-noded collapsed triangular element. Comparisons are made with analytical solutions or other existing numerical results, and the differences of stress concentration between two dimensional and three dimensional plates are discussed.
