Except reducing the productive cost ,it may cut down the waste. But on the other hand, it will increase fines in wet end. It will reduce paper strength, drainage and retention, so adding polymer additives to solve these problems is necessary. In this study, polyacrylamide's carbamoyl group proceeds N-chlorination reaction to produce high reactive N-chloropolyacylamide ( N-Cl-PAM ) . It could react with cellulose's hydroxyl and carboxyl groups to form covalent bond. It will improve paper strength, drainage and retention. In this experimentation, N-Cl-PAM is produced by Hofmann reaction at 25 ℃ . In this condition, we find that the reaction must react with NaOH and NaOCl in very low concentration. The reaction is rapid, the ratio of N- chloropolyacylamide reaches to the highest point within 2 minutes. By using self-prepared N-Cl-PAM as wet end additives, we study the effect on paper strength, drainage and retention. We find that adding 0.5% of N-Cl-PAM at PH=5.5 will get the best paper strength, and adding 0.3% of N-Cl-PAM will acquire the best drainage and retention. This study talks over the effect of N-Cl-PAM on various pulps and the effect of PDMDAAC, Here we will also dicuss the effect of Alum on Zeta potential, paper strength, drainage and retention.
