The pole of the spiral on the failure surface was fixed at the corner of the strip foundation in this study. The closed -form solution of the bearing capacity coefficients Nc and Nq were obtained. For the bearing capacity coefficient Nr, three approximate equations were proposed which accounted for rough, smooth and half rough-half smooth foundation base. Results from this study compares favorably with the results from literature. The effects of groundwater and two-layer soil strata were also considered in this study.
