Typically, the final structural design suits the building code , but ignores the basic spirit of light use. Under these circumstances , the typical result is that atriums are small and narrow, thereby reducing the quality of natural lighting and forcing more reliance on artificial lighting. Lack of related research on the relationships between atrium efficiency and adjacent structures, designers do not have enough knowledge to base the designs upon. This study therefore provides a physical scale model as an experimental mode for research in order to find out the optimal lighting efficiency in different vertical spaces of atriums. This study is divided into two parts. The first part is to analyze the building code with reference to light use to find its practical strengths and weaknesses in ordr to provide basic data necessary for amending the building code. The second part is to present research results on how to derive the highest lighting efficiency in atrium''s designs. This study includes the following content: 1.The basic lighting criteria needed for atrium spaces and a thorough analysis of their relationship to adjacent spaces. 2.An experimental study focus on an adjacent structures model to find out the optimum criteria for designing atriums that meet the efficient use of natural light. 3.A design guidelines will be made which is based on the experimental study and analysis. This basic study will also present the atrium design recommendation for revising the building code in the future. Chou Chia Peng 周家鵬 1995 學位論文 ; thesis 126 zh-TW
