computers,workstations and terminal equipment together inside
organizations. Due tothe proliferation of distributed systems
and the development of real timeapplications, the network
traffic problem is become serious. A goodunderstanding of
traffic distribution and patterns becomes critical
innetwork control and performance management.
In this thesis, we develop a network traffic flow monitor,
executed onthe PC platform, communication process of the
server and the workstationsbased on the Novell NetWare
environment. The monitor can perform trafficanalysis,
detection the active machines and their utilization
andmaintaining the information associated with the network
in the database.Which is used to understand the traffic
distribution and patterns. Thequeueing model is used to
analyze the traffic flow distribution and patternsto help the
network manager to solve the network traffic problem.
The following tasks have been done on this study: (1) How to
monitor theNovell network. (2) Study of the performance
model for evaluation theCSMA/CD. (3) Simulate the CSMA/CD
network. (4) Understand the communicationprotocol of the NetWare
system. (5) Develop a monitor to observe the networktraffic and
evaluate the traffic distribution
