But most of these simulation programs are developed for special conditions or purposes which are they lack the flexibility to simulate the complex situations in vehicle accident. The purpose of this study is to simulate the dynamic response of the driver within a frontal impacted vehicle by using the commercial available FEM package- MARC. A 3D human finite element model with 11 segments are established with the geometry and inertial properties from Hybrid dummy. Two types of joints, hinge joints and ball and socket joints, are employed to match the human joints. The outcomes shows the match in trend of the dynamic responses between the finite element analysis and sled test from other researches. The numerical values do show some difference between these two approaches and the reasons may be the parameter and loading values of the analysis input. Different input conditions, e.g., with and without safety belts, are then studied and discussed to show the capabilities in the finite element human model. C.H. Chang; S.C.
