Experimental results of two specimen sizes can be well explained by the thermal elastic and fracture energy theories. In the cyclic thermal shock testing with the quenching temperature difference below the critical temperature difference, no significant thermal fatigue damage was observed as indicated by the results of residual flexure strength measurement and other nondestructive evaluation methods such as dye penetration, ultrasonic and strain gage measurement of elastic modulus, and Vickers indentation har dness and crack growth observation. The evaluation of the applied nondestrucyive evaluation methods as a detecting tool for thermal shock damage is conducted by comparing with the results of residual flexure strength measurement.
