| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東師範學院 === 初等教育學系研究所 === 84 === The purposes of this study were to investigate the differences between the expected and actual principal's roles in elementary schools, and to analyze the magnitude of awareness on the importance of the instructional leadership. In addition, the differences between expectation and practice of principal's instructional leadership in different background variables were also studied.
The questionnaire developed in this study was used to survey on principals, administrators and teachers randomly selected from Kaohsiung and Pintung in Taiwan area. 945 were returned in usable condition and provided data for the study. Chi-square, t-test, z-test and one-way ANOVA were adopted to analyze the outcome of the study. The following conclusions were drawn from the study:
1. The expectation and actual perception of the respondents about the principal were overweighted in managing school affairs.
2. The time which principal spent on public relationship was higher than expectations.
3. The expectation and actual perception of the respondents about the principal's instructional leadership were not in the higher order of the principal's roles.
4. The overall estimate of the respondents identified the importance of the instructional leadership behaviors.
5. Principals still had to endeavor after the instructional leadership behaviors.
Suggestions related to educational policies, teaching staff and future esearches were also provided.
