Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 公共衛生學研究所 === 84 === The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prevalence-based costs of illness of Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) and its related diseases in 1995 from the societal per- spective. The study is a cross sectional retrospective sampled survey. The study population was the NIDDM patients that received either outpatient or inpatient services from a medical center in Taipei during April and September,1995.Stratified random sampling was used to select study cases. Data related to patients'' character- istics and services used were collected by sending a self- administered questionnaire through the mail. Data related to the charged and diagnosis were supplied by the various departments of the medical center. The total costs of illness contains direct costs and morbidity costs. The direct costs include costs of medical services and transportation fee; the morbidity costs include loss of salary of patients and their accompany family members. However, the intangible costs and mortality costs were not estimated due to unavailability of data. The major findings are as follows: 1.The average costs of patients with NIDDM are NT$52,532 in 1995 .Among this number, 85.48%(NT$44,903) were direct costs and 14.52% (NT$7,629) were indirect costs. 2.In terms of detailed cost items, the largest and the second largest part of the total costs were the costs for inpatient care (29.39%) and the costs for outpatient care(28.39%). 3.In terms of medical care utilization, the average physician visits and the average number of admissions of NIDDM patients in 1995 were 10.12 times and 0.21 times, respectively. 4.In terms of the average work loss days for NIDDM patients and their accompany family members in 1995, they were 2.7 days and 2.1 days, respectively.
