Measurement and observation of wood sectioning, wood maceration, quantity, matrix cluster analysis and anatomical characteristics were carried out. Identification features and classification system of Lauraceae wood were also discussed. The distribution of pores on the cross section of Lauraceae wood is usually diffuse, except 4 species are semi-ring porous, and 4 species are ring porous. The species vessel perforation plates of 69 species are simple and scalariform, and the others only simple. Intervascular pitting alternative throughout : minute and rarely large. All species in Alseodaphne, Laurus, Nothaphoebe and Phoebe have septate fibers. Longitudinal parenchyma are abundant, basically apotracheal and paratracheal, highly variable in quantity and arrangement. Rays are often heterogeneous and rarely homogeneous, predominantly 2-4 cells wide. Oil and mucilage cells were always present in the wood rays and parenchyma cells. Ca-oxalate crystals are present in nearly 90 percent of all the species investigated. According to the result of matrix cluster analysis, structure of Lauraceae wood is rather uniform and highly similar. Anatomic characteristics of wood between genera are undistinguishable. Even using the dichotomous key still cannot separate easily. It shows that phylogenetic status of Lauraceae is relatively i. e. , a very natural family. Therefore, the results of matrix analysis are different from those of morphological taxonomy, but which can still be as an aid in identification and Shuen-Chao Wu 吳順昭 1996 學位論文 ; thesis 105 zh-TW
