In addition, a localized inspection standard of steel couplers is established. Field investigation, including market observation,reveals that:(1)the quality of steel couplers commonly used is poor ,(2)unclear inspection standard results in unfair competion between steel couplers is desired. Based on the requirement of design codes,a localized ins pection standard is estabished,and the influence of steel coulpers to R.C. members are discussed. Loading tests of beams, which include steel coulpers,are carried out in the laboratory to study their behavior.It is found that crack width of the beams under service condition is closely relatted to the amount of slipage of steel coupl ers.The larger the slipage, the wider the cracks.
