It consists of the outer shaft and the inner shaft. The outer shaft is composed of the center shaft and the rotor of AC motor. And the inner shaft is the tool holder. The outer shaft is joined together with the inner shaft via two join points. The dynamic behavior of the rotor-bearing system is modeled by the finite element method. Then the system natural frequencies are determined by the numerical analysis. Because the mass of the outer shaft may be much greater than that of the inner shaft, the single rotor-bearing system is also used to compare the behavior of the dual rotor-bearing system. The system natural frequencies are measured to compare the numerical results. Furthermore, the system steady-state response is also studied. In optimization, the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier Method (ALMM) and Modified Method of Feasible Direction (MMFD) of mathematical programming method are applied in this study. Also, both the single objective optimization and the multiobjective optimization are performed and the optimum results are compared. The optimum results indicate that the steady-state response at the front bearing and/or the transmitted forces through the bearings can be significantly reduced by single objective optimization or multiobjective optimization.
