To quantify stand structures and growth is necessary for timber management. The technique of stand density control can provide an important information for thinning operation. So make a study of sysetm of growth and yield have a special meaning in forest management. Data of this study were collected from permanent plots of three different even-aged thinned satnds of Chamaecyparis formosensis plantations on Ta-Hsueh-Shan,central Taiwan. The purpose of this study are:(1) to develop growth and yield models of individual tree and stand for thinned stands of Chamaecyparis formosensis plantations,(2) to study the influential factors of stand structure by direct and indirect methods, (3) to establish stand density management diagram. The summary of obtained result is as follows: We taking A stand as an example ,explores growth processes of individual tree, seven growth functions were applied in basal area growth of individual tree, namely Schumacher,Mitscherlich, Logistic,Gompertz, Richards,Modify-Weibull and Schnute growth model, respectively. The applicability of those models were discussed in this study. We find that 3 parameters Richards growth model is superior to others. Its advantages include flexibility in shape and biological meaning in growth process. In different thinning intensity stands, the effects of relative growth spacing variation on growth in terms of basal area ,height and volume of individual tree, the relationship between the time of maximum growth rate(tmax) and thinning intensity can express as follow :the heigher the stand density (the lower thinning intensity),the later tmax; in basal area and volume of individual tree, but tree height seems to do not correlate with thinning intensity. In stand level, relative survival functions, site index curves and diameter distribution models were discussed in study area. Diameter distributions of each permanent plots is fitted by three parameters Weibull probability density function. We analyese influential factors of stand structures by direct and indirect estimation methods, then examined errors of each step by Kolmogorov-Smirnov for the goodness of fit. After much discussion about the errors of each step,we integrated direct and indirect estimation methods, and find it is superior to direct and indirect estimation methods. Finally, the stand density management diagram of Chamaecyparis formosensis is developed in this study area. It can provide a quantitative approach for thinning operation. The findings will provide detailed information for even-aged thinned stands of Chamaecyparis formosensis plantations. Joou-Shian Lee 李久先 --- 1997 學位論文 ; thesis 178 zh-TW
