碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築(工程)學系 === 85 === This thesis focues on the study of urban settlement.It takes Five-Harbor District of Tainan City as the study areaduring the period from the Dutch occupation to hte Japanese ruling.That is, the main period on which this thesis attempts to emphasize begins when the Three Guilds outside the Tainan City were set up along five rivers during the early times of Chen-lung period in Ching Dynasty to when they were ended in 1926 due to a new canal completely built.based on the three stages of rise,flourishing, and fall of the harbor district,the thesis intends to interpret the changing process of the harbor district in geography, economy,religion,politics and so on by historical discourse.
