Most of the existing studies of the consolidation mechanism inducedby the quicklime pile empoly the experimental approach to study the consolidationby a group of quicklime piles. Even though experimental data is the base of the understanding of mechanisminduced by quicklime pile, we still need to employ the numerical simulation.Thisis because the numerical approach is more efficient and economical when we studythe effects of variations of the geometrical and the material parameters. In the existing literatures it is thought that the radius of the regioninfluenced by a quicklime pile is five times of the radius of the pile.In otherwords, the distance between each two quicklime piles should be ten times of thepile radius. However, our numerical simulations reveal that this point should bere-examined. We also find that the radial consolidation induced by the quicklime pile is indifferent to the variation of the Young's modulus of the soil whileit is affected significantly by the variation of the Poison's ratio.
