Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中央大學 === 化學系 === 85 === In thesis three homologous serious of ligands;5-alkoxyl-1,3- bis[3-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanoyl]benzene,5-alkoxyl-1,3- bis[3-(3,4-dialkoxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanoyl]benzene,5- alkoxyl-1,3-bis[3-(3,4,5-trialkoxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanoyl]benzene and their corresponding metal complexes (copper, vanadyl, nickel, cobalt and palladium) were synthesized and also characterized. 1H and 13C NMR were used to identify the structures, and to confirm their purity. The metal complexes were characterized by 1H NMR, IR, spectra and elemental analysis. The thermal behavior and liquid crystallinity of these metal complexes were also studied and investigated based on DSC analysis, polarized optical microscope. Experiment data showed that bicoper, bivanadyl and binickel complexes of all three serious ligands exhibited liquid crystalline behavior. Bicopper and binickel complexes exhibited discotic hexagonal disordered phases, however, bivanadyl complexes exhibited discotic rectangular disordered phases Preliminary data indicated that bipalladium and bicobalt complexes exhibited only crystalline phase. By systematic comparison of various molecular structure with mesomorphic behavior the formation of ligand crystallinity was mainly dependent on metal centers. Coordination interaction between metal centers influenced the formation of the liquid crystallinity. Experimental daua also revealed that the carbon length, i.e. approximate aspect ratio, directly stabilized the mesophases.
