It divides into three sub-studies to understand the main proposition of mien tzu stress, analyze the need for mien tzu of students themselves and realize how mien tzu stress affects the physical basal value, response value, evaluation value of students and their state of need for mien tzu. Study One is the interview of ten students randomly sampled. The results are organized into three main categories: the characteristic of mien tzu stress events, the interactive condition and the response type of mien tzu stress. Therefore, the interviewing data is represented in different propositions. The main discoveries of Study One are described as below: (1) Mien tzu events have special developmental meaning toward elementary students. Mien tzu events are deeply influenced by social value system, through which academic achievements and gender performances are especially emphasized. The individual recognition of mien tzu is ! determined by internal drive of personal concern about mien tzu and the possibility of losing mien tzu. (2) Mien tzu stress is made through inter-personal relationship. The interaction of mien tzu between students mainly expressed among peers, judged by the relationship in between and the harmony in appearances. (3) The attitude of concern with mien tzu is expressed through action rather than speech. In case of losing mien tzu, it is better to transfer the attention; it is a way neither to hurt others nor to hurt selves. In Study Two, a scale is made about mien tzu by the results of Study One, which concerns with the!watchwords, the emotional terms, sayings and adjectives about mien tzu. The scale investigates the condition of the need for mien tzu in order to find out individual need for mien tzu for further research of Study Three. Besides, Study Two discusses the relations of several variables of the need for mien tzu, such as gender, parents'' educational level, familial economic condition, past academic achievements a the score on scale of the need for mien tzu . Further, testees of different gender are made to compare in different content of the need for mien tzu. The results of Study Two are described as below: (1) The scale of the need for mien tzu primarily concerning academic achievements includes two factors: "saving mien tzu" and "losing mien tzu." (2) There is positive correlation between the two sub-scales, saving mien tzu and losing mien tzu. (3) The scores of male students are remarkably higher than those of female. It shows that male students obtain higher mien tzu than female students. (4) In the answers to the losing mien tzu sub-scale, male students tend to choose descriptive terms of the feelings about losing mien tzu, while female students tend to choose terms that gives vent to emotions. In the answers to the saving mien tzu sub-scale, male students obviously have greater difference than female students. (5) The higher parents'' educational level is, the higher is children''s need for mien tzu. However, parents without acquiring or not finishing elementary education have their children the highest demand of mien tzu. (6) In case of academic achievements, the A-grade(scores higher than 95) students have higher scores than B or C-grade students in losing mien tzu sub-scale. Following Study Two, Study Three continue to investigate the need for mien tzu. Students with different types of need for mien tzu are tested in the accompany of different significant others under the experimental condition of losing mien tzu reasoning test. It is to measure the physical response and the state of the need for mien tzu of the testees in such experimental condition. It adopts the method of "two-way Generalized Randomized Block Design ANOVA" to inquire the effect of independent variables toward the physical response basal value(basal value), physical response value (response value) in the test, and physical response evaluation after the test(evaluation value). In addition, it analyzes the response of the need for mien tzu. The results of Study Three are described as below: The need for mien tzu (1) There is an effect of interaction between the "need for mien tzu" representing in the physical basal value and physical response value of electrodermal response( EDR) and the "significant others." (2) In the basal value of EDR, the oversensitive type is higher than the unmoved type and the general need type, when they are in the best friend group of "significant others". (3) In the response value of EDR, the oversensitive type is higher than the unmoved type and the general need type; the general need type is higher than the unmoved type, when they are in the best friend group of "significant others". (4) There is no remarkable influence in the main effect and the interaction about the physical evaluation value of the need for mien tzu. (5) The need for mien tzu is more stable in oversensitive and unmoved type, while the general need type is apt to change their need for mien tzu. Significant Others (6) There is an effect of interaction between the "significant others" representing in the physical basal and response value of EDR and the "need for mien tzu". It represents its main effect in the physical basal and response value of heartbeating velocity. (7) In the basal value of EDR, the stranger group in the "significant others" is higher than the good friend group in the unmoved type of the "need for mien tzu". In the basal value of heartbeating velocity also shows the stranger group of the "significant others" higher than the good friend group. (8) In the response value of EDR, the beloved group of the "significant others" is higher than the stranger group over every type of the "need for mien tzu." The best friend group is higher than the stranger group in oversensitive type; the beloved group is higher than the best friend group in the general need and the unmoved types. The response value of heartbeating velocity shows the beloved group is higher than the best friend group and the stranger group. (9) The "significant others" have no remarkable influence in the main effect and the interaction of physical evaluation value. (10) The testees are deeply influenced by the "significant others" in the need for losing mien tzu evaluation afterwards. Among them, the scores of the beloved group is obviously lower than the best friend group and the stranger group in the scale of need for mien tzu. The results of the study offer multiple concepts of mien tzu. On the one hand, it represents the operation of mien tzu stress; on the other hand, it provides many opinions for the improvement of present educational situation.
