But traditional PACS systems are of closed architecture which is not suitable for common users. So this research aims to build a multi-media medical instructional system on Internet which takes advantage of the abundant clinical resources in the hospital and transfer them into a new courseware database to aid students in their studies.For its cross-platform ability and friendly user- interface, we use World Wide Web (WWW) to build the client side of the system. On the server side, we write our database gateway by means of ODBC which can connect different databases and present the multi-media data in an unified interface.From the medical educational point of view, not only can this system provide an authoring and editing tool for tutors to write courseware, but can evaluate the learning process of the students. It also includes mail and talk services to support the cooperative learning environment. According to the user''s feedback, this system is very helpful for medical students outside classroom.In the future, we''ll work on adding more on- line image processing tools and the synchronization between static and dynamic data.
