Summary: | 碩士 === 國立台灣工業技術學院 === 管理技術研究所 === 85 === In this thesis, we investigate the quality control methods for
products under free repair warranty. Under the free repair
warranty policy, a product isrepaired without any additional
cost to the buyer if it fails within the warranty period.
However, a failed product will incur warranty cost to the
seller. Product quality is an important factor in evaluating the
warranty cost. A higher qualityproduct will result in lower
warranty cost since it is not likely to fail within the warranty
period. Therefore, it is important to improve the product
quality toreduce the total warranty cost. In this thesis, we
consider two quality controlmethods for products under
continuous production: (1) lot-sizing to reduce theproduction of
defective items and (2) burn-in to weed out the defective
itemsproduced. Although small lot size and long burn-in time can
improve product quality and reduce warranty cost, they also
incur more setup cost and burn-in cost. Therefore, there is a
trade-off between quality control cost and warrantycost. Our
objective here is to obtain the optimal lot size and burn-in
time such that the expected total cost per item released is
minimized.
