碩士 === 淡江大學 === 資訊管理學系 === 85 === The rise of the World-Wide Web contributes a new channel of information sharing. Any information sharing activities can achieve easily by a hyperlink. In order to share and/or distribute information via World-Wide Web,it is then become a need to build a Web Server. Nowadays, there are a variety of Web Server packages, which may be different in performance and function, how to make a right choice is then a problem to explore. The attempt of this research is trying to give some suggestions in this situation. To do it, we measure and compare performances of any probably combination of six Web Serverpackages among four different operating systems. In test environment, using three PCs to constructing a LAN environment, one as Web Server, the others as network testing side. In test tool, using WebStone that developed from Silicon Graphics, Inc. as performance testing tool. In test object, testingperformance of six Web Servers (Apache, NCSA, CERN, IIS, FastTrack and PowerWeb) and four operating systems (FreeBSD, Linux, Windows NT and OS/2). The comparison results can show us that different combination of Web Serverpackages and operating systems suits what sitution.
