The research samples were drawnfrom the fifth-graders in Taipei Municipal Ton- Hu Elementary School: 70students for the experimental group and 70 for the comparative group. Bothgroups were pre-tested by use of a likert-style opinionnaire , and werepost-tested immediately following the 12-week unit of instruction. The mainresults are as follows :A. The teaching of ethnic bias-reducing program can reduce students'' bias towards the aborigines.1. The teaching of ethnic bias-reducing program can elevate students'' positive impressions of the aborigines.2. The teaching of ethnic bias- reducing program can''t encourage non-aboriginal students to make friends with the aboriginal students in the same class.3. The teaching of ethnic bias-reducing program can raise the degree of the non-aboriginal students'' consent to the government''s favorable policies toward the aboriginal students.4. The teaching of ethnic bias-reducing program can improve students to appreciate the aboriginal cultures.5. The teaching of ethnic bias-reducing program can reduce social distance between students and the aborigines. B. The teaching of ethnic-bias reducing program can improve self-conception of the aboriginal students.C. The teaching of ethnic-bias reducing program can improve students'' critical thinking ability.D. The teaching of ethnic-bias reducing program can''t lower students'' dogmatic opinions.E. Highly dogmatic elementary school students lessen their prejudice toward aborigines more than slightly dogmatic students after instruction.F. For children, the narrative units are easy to memorize than the conceptual units. Most students like the teaching of ethnic-bias reducing program, and even think subjectively that the teaching can improve their critical thinking ability. In addition to the main result, the research offers some suggestions :A. Suggestions for the school teaching.1. Developing multi-evaluation conception.2. developing multiethnic curriculum model. Then students study historical and social events from several ethnic and cultural points of view.3. Discussing current events or argumentative problems about aborigines in teaching activities.4. Whole- school policies of combating prejudice are necessary.5. Cultivating open class discussing climates in order to improve students critical thinking ability.B. Suggestions for the educational execution authorities. 1. Encouraging colleges or universities to add the multi-cultural education into the courses of the teacher training and in-service education.2. Reflecting on the present curriculum standard, and including the generalization of reduction of ethnic-bias.3. Continuing and strengthen the active compensation for aborigines.4. Cultivating the aborigines to understand their language and culture of the aborigines through their special educational opportunities.5. Inviting some public celebrities to express their positive feeling toward the aborigines. C. Suggestions for the developers of the program and the following researchers of this issue . 1. Make good use of the resources of parents and the community.2. The classroom can be decorated as the surroundings characterized with multicultures, which will gradually change students'' conception in their daily life.3. Design the activities that can''t be carried out without the aborigines , so that the interaction between aboriginal and ordinary students can be increased.4. Take advantage of flexible time and the class instructor time to conduct ethnic- bias reducing program.5. Do more research on the self- conception of aboriginal students from different tribes in the city.6. After amendment the program can be implemented in more city schools.
