Although the techniques of 3-D image reconstruction have been widely studied in usual, but it still plays an important role in the integrated medical diagnosis system. With the capability of 3-D visualization, this system can offer the doctors a good suggestion when diagnosing patient or performing an operation. In this thesis, a novel approach based on wavelet transform is proposed for 3-D image reconstruction from a series of cross-sectional medical images. In addition, the proposed method is used to serve as a part of an image processing system developed for medical applications. More specifically, this system provides the functions such as image preprocessing, the 3-D reconstruction, visual representation. All of these functions are integrated in a utilized software under the windows-based operation environment.
