important effects on the strength and the mechanical properties
of lightweight aggregate concrete. On the determination of the E
value of concrete, the empirical equations and the predicted
formulas derived basing on the composite materials theory are
often adopted. These methods have been evaluated to be
inconvenient or impractical. This study presents firstly the
method of numerical analysis to simulate the distribution
situation of aggregate in concrete, and then establishes the
relationship among the elastic modulus of concrete, mortar,
aggregate and the content of aggregate in concrete. This
relationship is then utilized for evaluating the E value of
light aggregate according to the test data. The results show
that it is appropriate to predict the modulus of elasticity of
lightweight aggregate by the proposed method of numerica
