Nevertheless, a close-up examination reveals the dismal lack of real world applications. To put an end to the aforementioned disparity and pinpoint the frontier of reliability-enhanced software development, this thesis addressed implementation issues of raising database reliability by adopting the diversifying redundancy strategy. It has analyzed, in addition to the system framework, technical feasibility issues that support the employment of diversifying redundancy strategy to achieve a reliability-enhanced database (RED). The time is now for developing the low-cost RED. In this thesis we focus on issues of raising the reliability of database systems, and propose the RED system. While an individual database management system (DBMS) enjoys low maintenance requirement, it suffers from having low reliability and availability. On the other hand, the distributed database management system (DDBMS) achieves medium reliability and availability at the cost of high maintenance requirement. Therefore, the RED system is expected to out perform both DBMS and DDBMS in reliability. The framework of RED, which offers the capacity of succinct specification and unmistakable description of a particular system, is investigated and its representation is proposed. For implementation considerations, first we present, in addition to addressing requirements for RED transactions, independent database management systems available on the market. Then, we review the statistical test of outputs independence before exploring a new test of failures independence. The independence test of failures is the only test available to date for the stated purpose. Ching-Cheng Wang 王清正 1998 學位論文 ; thesis 1 zh-TW
