Compare with mechanical properties and microscopic characters, we suppose that the weakening of Dongken sandstone is caused by the decreasing of the amount of matrix and reduseing the ability of cementation. The result of triaxial tests show that Nangan sandstone will initially perform volume compression when suffer shear stress. When shear stress exceed the shear dilation threshold, the specimen starts to dilate until failure occurs. the normalized shear dilation threshold is about 0.4.The result of creep tests show that the creep behavior of Dongken sandstone is controlled by stress level.
