Proper planning and alloca tion can enhance the productivity. The objective of this research is to discus s the machine assignment for non-identical parallel machines networks. The con tent of this research includes: analyze production activities, develop key dec ision models for machine assignment, and design and implement an information s ystem which can perform those activities. Key models include a model for predi cting WIP and an LP-based model to minimum processing time. The main achiev ement of this research is a software which is developed for semiconductor phot olithography area. The system was created with Microsoft Visual Basic, Access, and Lindo. The system provides the necessary information and decision support for machine assignment, which includes the tracking of WIP, the product quant ity assignment for each machine, and the utilization of machines. The user can do machine assignment in advance and verify its performance. Through human-co mputer interaction, a satisfied machine assignment rule could be obtained. M.-T. Wang H.-C.
