Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 電子工程技術研究所 === 86 === The subject of this thesis is on the design and fabrication of tunable laser arrays. The WDM networks require multiwavelength transmitters, which areusually made of multiwavelength laser arrays (MWLA) or tunable lasers. Our goal is to design and fabricate laser arrays which have theadvantages of both MWLA and tunable lasers. First, we designed DBR lasers with wavelength spacings of 8A and 4A, respectively. All DBR lasers in an array have the same output wavelengthsand wavelength spacings. Second, we used SGDBR lasers to design adjustable multiwavelength laser arrays. The reflection spectrum of aSGDBR mirror has multiple peaks, and the spacing between the adjacent peaks is inversely proportional to its sampling period. The two mirrors in a laser have different sampling periods and the laser will lase at thewavelength that the two reflection spectra overlap. By varying thesampling period from laser to laser in an array, all lasers emit light at theirfirst-order peaks which are spaced by 8A. Three different duty cycles ofthe SGDBR laser arrays were designed and each array has 21 SGDBR lasers. We have successfully fabricated the DBR laser arrays and SGDBR laserarrays. The DBR laser arrays can be tuned over 6 nm in wavelength, thewavelength spacing for each mode hopping in tuning is either 8.4 A or 4.2 A. The MSR of each laser is more than 30dB for all the lasing wavelengths. Almost all the lasers in a SGDBR laser array can emit single-wavelengthlight with better than 30dB of MSR. When each laser in an array emits light at its first-order peak, a multiwavelength laser array with wavelength spacing of 8.4 A is formed.
