Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 管理技術研究所 === 86 === Mouse is a pointing device that is indispensable for today''s computers. Computer operations can be much more efficient through the use of mouse. However, using a mouse that is designed improperly or unsuitable to the user could cause upper extremity musculoskeletal disorder (UEMSD). There are two purposes for this research: One is to study the difference that mouse design can make in terms of work performance, working posture, muscle effort, and subjective rating; as well as the reasons that cause these difference. The other purpose is to discuss the difference that palm size can make in terms of working posture, muscle effort, and subjective rating. In this research, working performance was measured from task completion time and task completion rate. Working posture was measured from joint angles like wrist extexion, wrist deviation, elbow extension, shoulder flexion, and shoulder abduction. Muscle effort was measured from electromyography recording of the muscles controlling thumb abduction, extensor carpi radialias longus, extensor carpi ulnaris, and middle deltoid. Subjective rating was taken from lab test and long-term test. As a result, the height of mouse is the major factor that influences wrist extexion and extensor carpi radialias longus, and the recommended height for mouse is 3.4 plus 0.1 centimeter. On the other hand, mouse size is an important factor that has an impact over the angle of wrist deviation, extensor carpi ulnaris, and comfort rating of the plam. The recommended mouse size is over 75 square centimeter. Finally, clicking strength has to do with thumb abduction, the suggested clicking strength is 1.0 plus or minus 0.2N. For users who have smaller palm size, a lower mouse is more suitable for them, and those who have larger palm size, a larger mouse is more appropriate for them. It is important for users to select a mouse that best fits their palm size.
